For the greatest love of all is a love that sacrifices all. And this great love is demonstrated
when a person sacrifices his life for his friends.
“Defend the defenseless, the fatherless and the forgotten, the disenfranchised and the destitute.
Your duty is to deliver the poor and the powerless; liberate them from the grasp of the wicked.
When one of God’s holy lovers dies, it is costly to the Lord, touching his heart.
Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then
I will be confident. 4 One thing I ask from the LORD, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house
of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple.
Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.
Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue;
if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.
Join with me in suffering, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.
Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin condemns any people.
When all the nation had finished passing over the Jordan, the Lord said to Joshua,
Take twelve men from the people, from each tribe a man, and command them, saying, ‘Take twelve stones
from here out of the midst of the Jordan, from the very place where the priests’ feet stood firmly, and
bring them over with you and lay them down in the place where you lodge tonight” Then Joshua called
the twelve men from the people of Israel, whom he had appointed, a man from each tribe. And Joshua said to them, “Pass on before the ark of the Lord your God into the midst of the Jordan, and take up each of you a stone
upon his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the people of Israel…”
Be free from pride-filled opinions, for they will only harm your cherished unity. Don’t allow self-promotion
to hide in your hearts, but in authentic humility put others first and view others
as more important than yourselves. Abandon every display of selfishness. Possess a greater concern
for what matters to others instead of your own interests.
For God has not destined us to experience wrath but to possess salvation through
our Lord Jesus, the Anointed One. He gave his life for us so that we may share in resurrection life
in union with him—whether we’re awake or asleep. Because of this, encourage the hearts of your fellow
believers and support one another, just as you have already been doing.
The Lord is close to all whose hearts are crushed by pain, and he is always ready
to restore the repentant one.
Beloved brothers and sisters, we want you to be quite certain about the truth concerning
those who have passed away, so that you won’t be overwhelmed with grief like
many others who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, we also believe
that God will bring with Jesus those who died while believing in him.
“Martha,” Jesus said, “You don’t have to wait until then. I am the Resurrection, and I am Life Eternal.
Anyone who clings to me in faith, even though he dies, will live forever. And the one who lives
by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?”
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed,
for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.
Be on the alert, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong.
Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.
Our soul waits for the LORD; He is our help and our shield. For our heart is glad in Him,
because we trust in His holy name. Let your steadfast love, O LORD, be upon us, even as we hope in You.
And he said, “The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my rock,
in whom I take refuge; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold and my refuge;
My Savior, You save me from violence. I call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised;
And I am saved from my enemies.”
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
My eyes fail with longing for Your word, While I say, “When will You comfort me?”
For thus says the LORD, “Behold, I extend peace to her like a river, And the glory of the nations like
an overflowing stream; And you will be nursed, you will be carried on the hip and fondled on the knees.
As one whom his mother comforts, so I will comfort you; And you will be comforted in Jerusalem.”
Then you will see this, and your heart will be glad, And your bones will flourish like the new grass;
And the hand of the LORD will be made known to His servants,
But He will be indignant toward His enemies…
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion
and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort
those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. For just as the sufferings
of Christ overflow to us, so also through Christ our comfort overflows.
If we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted, it is for your comfort,
which accomplishes in you patient endurance of the same sufferings we experience.
And our hope for you is sure, because we know that just as you share in our sufferings,
so also you will share in our comfort.
“Comfort, O comfort My people,” says your God. “Speak kindly to Jerusalem; And call out to her,
that her warfare has ended, That her iniquity has been removed…”
Indeed, the LORD will comfort Zion; He will comfort all her waste places. And her wilderness
He will make like Eden, And her desert like the garden of the LORD; Joy and gladness will be found in her,
Thanksgiving and sound of a melody.
Again, proclaim, saying, “Thus says the LORD of hosts, ‘My cities will again overflow with prosperity,
and the LORD will again comfort Zion and again choose Jerusalem’”
The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This charge I have received from my Father.”
Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.
Behold, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are continually before me
My prayers for you are full of praise to God as I give him thanks for you with great joy! I’m so grateful for our union –
God, you’re such a safe and powerful place to find refuge! You’re a proven help in time of trouble—more than enough and always available whenever I need you.
Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.
We always thank God for all of you, making mention of you constantly in our prayers. We recall, in the presence of our God and Father, your work produced by faith, your labor motivated by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.
Here is a call for the endurance of the saints, those who keep the commandments of God and their faith in Jesus.
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.
The memory of the righteous is blessed, But the name of the wicked will rot.
Though an army encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war arise against me, yet I will be confident. One thing have I asked of the LORD, that will I seek after: I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to inquire in his temple.
